The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met in camera this day at 5:02 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cormier, Gagné, Maltais, McIntyre, Mégie, Moncion, Poirier and Smith (8).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Stéphanie Pépin, Legislative Clerk, Committees Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2017, the committee continued to examine and report on Canadians' views about modernizing the Official Languages Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)
WITNESSES:

Françoise Enguehard, Author and Journalist;
Marie-France Kenny, Chief Executive Officer, Dualicom Inc.;
The Honourable Michel Bastarache, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.
The chair made a statement.
It was agreed:
That the draft "Highlights of the Report'' be amended based on today's discussions and that the final version be sent to members by email.
It was agreed:
That the draft mock-up be adopted;
That the chair and deputy chair of the committee be authorized to approve the final version of the mock-up report, taking into account today's discussions and making any changes deemed necessary.
The question being put on the motion, it was carried.
It was agreed:
That the three promotional products, namely the updated graphic design for the committee's study; the updated video for the committee's study; and the electronic invitation to the press conference, be adopted.
At 5:35 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:37 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Enguehard and Ms. Kenny made statements and answered questions.
At 6:30 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:34 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Bastarache made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
