The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day at 4:53 p.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Merchant, Munson, Ogilvie, Raine and Stewart Olsen (7).

In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the committee began its study on increasing incidence of obesity in Canada.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the chair's note and summary of the report.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for tabling the report.

At 5:36 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda.

It was agreed that the committee adopt the draft first report, prepared in accordance with rule 12-26(2).

At 5:42 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
