The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:15 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dean, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Galvez, Hartling, Mégie, Neufeld, Ogilvie, Petitclerc, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (12).

In attendance: Sonya Norris and Karin Phillips, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 5, 2016, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-228, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (prohibiting food and beverage marketing directed at children). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 25.)

Janet Feasby, Vice President, Standards;

Nicole Bellam, Vice President, Ad Standards Clearance Services.

Corus Entertainment Inc.:

Sylvie Courtemanche, Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Government Relations and Compliance;

Simone Sammut, Senior Manager, Internal Programming, Policy & Government Relations, Law Department.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Feasby, Ms. Courtemanche and Ms. Sammut each made a statement and, together with Ms. Bellam, answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
