The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:32 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Art Eggleton, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Day, Eggleton, P.C., Forest, Mégie, Omidvar, Poirier, Raine and Seidman (9).
In attendance: Ferda Simpson, Procedural Clerk, Senate Committees Directorate; Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, the committee began its examination of Bill C-311, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day).
WITNESSES:
Colin Fraser, Member of Parliament for West Nova, sponsor of the bill.
Royal Canadian Legion:
Brad White, Dominion Secretary.
Canadian Heritage:
Denis Racine, Director General, Major Events, Commemorations and Capital Experience;
Marie-Lise Julien, Legal Counsel.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Fraser and Mr. White each made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:05 p.m., it was agreed to proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-311, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day).
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1 carry.
It was agreed that the title carry.
It was agreed that the bill carry.
It was agreed that the chair report the bill to the Senate.
At 5:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
