The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry has the honour to table its

FIRST REPORT

Your Committee, which was authorized by the Senate to incur expenses for the purpose of its examination and consideration of such legislation and other matters as were referred to it, reports, pursuant to Rule 104, that the expenses of the Committee during the First Session of the Thirty-Fifth Parliament were as follows:

A. With respect to its examination and consideration of legislation:

The following expenses, incurred by the Committee with respect to its examination and consideration of legislation, were charged to the budget of the Committees and Private Legislation Directorate:

The following expenses, incurred by the Committee with respect to its study on the future of agriculture in Canada, were charged to the budget of the Committees and Private Legislation Directorate:

Witnesses' expenses $ 1,065.19

In the course of the First Session of the Thirty-Fifth Parliament, your Committee held thirty-eight meetings and heard one hundred and fourteen witnesses. Twenty-three of the meetings, at which ninety-eight witnesses appeared, were held jointly with the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food. Your Committee considered seven Government public bills (C-49, C-50, C-51, C-61, C-75, C-86 and C-92). In addition, it tabled an interim report for its special study on farm safety and farm-related health issues entitled: "Farm Machinery: Lost Lives, Lost Limbs"; an interim report for its special study on the future of agriculture in Canada entitled: "New Realities and Tough Choices: From Agriculture to Agri-Food"; and a final report on the same Order of Reference entitled: "Agricultural Trade: Report of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry's Fact-Finding Missions to Washington and Winnipeg." In all, your Committee issued twelve reports in relation to its work.
