The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met at 5:05 p.m. this day for the purpose of organization pursuant to Rule 89.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Kenny, Milne, Nolin, Petten, Poulin, Stollery and Wood (10).
Other Senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme.
In attendance: Other Senate officials.
The Committee met, pursuant to Rule 89, to elect a Chairman and to consider various organizational, administrative and financial matters pursuant to Rule 87(1)(g).
1. Election of Chairman
Pursuant to Rule 89, the Clerk presided over the election of the Chairman.

The Honourable Senator Nolin moved - THAT the Honourable Senator Kenny be elected Chairman of the Committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was - Resolved in the affirmative.
2. Election of Deputy Chairman

The Honourable Senator Stollery moved - THAT the Honourable Senator Di Nino be elected Deputy Chairman of the Committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was - Resolved in the affirmative.
3. Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure
96-02-28/03
The Honourable Senator Wood moved - THAT the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman and Honourable Senators Gauthier, Nolin and Petten, and that in the absence of a member, the Chair and Deputy Chair be authorized to chose a substitute.
The question being put on the motion, it was - Resolved in the affirmative.
4. Authority to Resolve Issues

The Honourable Senator Cochrane moved - THAT, if the full Committee is unable to meet, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to deal with and resolve immediate administrative problems; and that it report its findings at the first meeting thereafter; and
THAT if the Subcommittee is unable to meet, the Chairman and Deputy Chairman be so authorised.
The question being put on the motion, it was - Resolved in the affirmative.
At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
