The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met at 12:15 p.m. this day, the Chairs, the Honourable Senator Kenny and the Honourable Senator Gauthier presiding.

Members of the Internal Economy Committee present: The honourable senators Carstairs, Cochrane, Cohen, Forrestall, Gauthier, Kenny, Milne, Nolin, Poulin, Rompkey and Stollery. (11)

Members of the Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders Committee present: The honourable senators Bosa, Doyle Gauthier, Grafstein, Grimard, Gustafson, Lewis, Maheu, Milne, Robertson and Rompkey. (11)

Other senators present: The honourable senators Cools, Kirby and MacDonald (3),

In attendance: Mr. Paul C. Bélisle, Clerk of the Senate and other Senate officials.

Senator Kenny tabled and spoke to the document entitled: "Restructuring of Senate Committees".

The Committees discussed the question of the restructuring of Senate Committees.

It was agreed that the Rules Committee would consider the paper, as a reference to be considered with other submissions, and after deliberation would return it to the Internal Economy Committee for examination from a technical point of view.

At 1:30 p.m. the Committees adjourned to the call of the Chairs.
