The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and met at 8:30 a.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Kenny presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, De Bané, Di Nino, Forrestall, Kenny, Milne, Nolin, Poulin and Rompkey. (9)
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme (1).
Also present: The Honourable Don Boudria, P.C., M.P..
In attendance: Mr. Paul Bélisle, Clerk of the Senate and other Senate officials.
It was agreed that the committee proceed in camera.
At 9:25 a.m., the committee proceeded in public.
Liaison Senators
The committee reviewed the briefing note "Liaison Senators".

It was agreed that the list of liaison Senators be revised with the following changes: add Senator Wood to Human Resources and Protective Staff; add Senator Prud'homme to Finance; delete Senator Poulin from Legislative Services.
Presentation to the Honourable Don Boudria, P.C., M.P.
The Chair (Senator Kenny) and Deputy Chair (Senator Di Nino), on behalf of the committee, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Honourable Don Boudria, P.C., M.P. for his contributions to improving Senate and House of Commons relations.
Update on Pages Programme
The committee proceeded to the consideration of an update on the Page Programme.

It was agreed that the report is satisfactory but that staff be directed to re-examine the areas of (1) pay (2) recruitment and (3) language education.
Planning of Expenditures
The committee proceeded to consideration of the briefing note "Planning of Expenditures".

It was agreed that all Senators be asked to advise the Finance Directorate by January 2, 1997 of their plans for office and research expenses for the remainder of the year. It was agreed that the sentence in the proposed memorandum to all Senators "New expenses not outlined in their forecast beyond February 1, 1997 will not be permitted" be deleted.
At 10:30 a.m. the Committees adjourned to the call of the Chairs.
