The Subcommittee on Post-Secondary education met at 9:03 a.m. this day in the Board Room of the MacDonald Building, Dalhousie University, Halifax, the Chairman, the Honourable M. Lorne Bonnell, presiding.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 19, 1996, the Subcommittee resumed its consideration of the inquiry on the serious state of Post-Secondary education in Canada (for full text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Subcommittee dated August 6, 1996, Issue No. 1).

The Honourable Senator Losier-Cool took the Chair.

The students made statements and answered questions.

At 10:33 a.m. the Honourable Senator Bonnell resumed as Chair.

At 10:40 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 10:55 a.m., the meeting resumed.

Robert E. Geraghty made an opening statement and, together with Colin Dodds, Tom Traves, Alice Mansell, Gordon MacDermid and Sheila Brown, answered questions.

At 12:00 noon Shawn Rouse and Kelly Lamrock made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the Honourable Senator DeWare took the Chair.

At 12:11 p.m., the Honourable Senator Bonnell resumed as Chair.

At 12:37 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 19, 1996, the Subcommittee resumed its consideration of the inquiry on the serious state of Post-Secondary education in Canada (for full text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Subcommittee dated August 6, 1996, Issue No. 1).

Dale Kirby and Lori Lush made opening statements and answered questions.

At 2:45 p.m., Lorne Ryan and David Leitch made opening statements and, together with Linda Stiles, answered questions.

Mr. Ryan tabled the following documents with the Clerk:

(a) Addendum to Report previously submitted on January 17, 1997 to Sub-Committee on Post-Secondary education by Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities, February 18, 1997, which was retained as Exhibit No. 6050-2.35/Pl 9 "24"; and

(b) Document entitled Canadian Universities: the Status of Persons with Disabilities, which was retained as Exhibit No. 6050-2.35/Pl 9 "25".

At 3:45 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 3:55 p.m., the meeting resumed.
