The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples has the honour to present its

FIRST REPORT

Your committee, which was authorized by the Senate to incur expenses for the purpose of its examination and consideration of such legislation and other matters as were referred to it, reports, pursuant to Rule 104 of the Rules, that the expenses incurred by the Committee during the Second Session of the Thirty-fifth Parliament are as follows:

During the session, your committee held 8 meetings, and examined 4 bills including Bill C-39, An Act respecting the York Factory First Nation and the settlement of matters arising from an agreement relating to the flooding of land; C-40, An Act respecting the Nelson House First nation and the settlement of matters arising from an agreement relating to the flooding of land; C-6, An Act to amend the Yukon Quartz Mining Act and the Yukon Placer Mining Act and S-12, An Act providing for self-government by the first nations of Canada. The committee submitted three (3) reports.

The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal peoples has the honour to present its

SECOND REPORT

Your committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Tuesday December 9, 1997 to examine and report on the recommendations of the Royal Commission Report on Aboriginal Peoples respecting Aboriginal governance, respectfully requests that it be empowered to engage the services of such counsel and technical, clerical and other personnel as may be necessary and to adjourn from place to place inside and outside of Canada, for the purpose of its examination.

Pursuant to Section 2:07 of the Procedural Guidelines for the Financial Operation of Senate Committees, the budget submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the report thereon of that committee are appended to this report.

The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal People has the honour to present its

THIRD REPORT

Your committee, to which was referred the Bill C-8, An Act respecting an Accord between the Governments of Canada and the Yukon Territory relating to the administration and control of legislative jurisdiction in respect of oil and gas, has examined the said Bill in obedience to its Order of Reference dated Wednesday March 25, 1998, and now reports the same without amendment.

The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal People has the honour to present its

FOURTH REPORT

Your Committee, to which was referred the Bill C-6, an Act to provide for an integrated system of land and water management in the Mackenzie Valley, to establish certain boards for that purpose and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, has, in obedience to the Order of Reference of March 26, 1998, examined the said Bill and now reports the same without amendment.
