The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 9:02 a.m., in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Fairbairn, P.C., Rossiter, Spivak (4).
In attendance: June Dewetering, Research Officer, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to its order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 18, 1997, the committee continued its consideration of global conditions concerning the present state and the future of agriculture in Canada, issues related to farm income.
WITNESSES:
From Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada:
Mr. Tom Richardson, Director General, Farm Income Policy and Programs, PolicyBranch;
Mr. Jack Gellner, Director, Economic and Industry Analysis, Policy Branch; and
Mr. Roger Eyvindson, Director, Policy Development Division, Policy Branch.
Mr. Richardson, Mr. Gellner and Mr Eyvindson each made a statement and, together, they answered questions.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Spivak: -- That the committee proceed in camera, for the consideration of a draft agenda.
The question being put on the motion, -- It was agreed.
At 11:01, the committee proceeded in camera.
At 11:13 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
