The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 4:12 p.m. this day, in Room 705-VB, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Hays, Milne, Robichaud (Saint-Louis-de-Kent), P.C., Rossiter, Sparrow, Stratton, Taylor and Whelan, P.C. (10).

In attendance: June Dewetering and Frédéric Forge, Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

WITNESS:

From The Food Ethics Council:

Mr. John Verrall.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 1998, the committee continued its study of Recombinant Bovine Growth Somatotropine (rBST) and its effects on human and animal health safety.

Mr. Verrall made a presentation and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
