The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 257-EB, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Hays, Rossiter, Sparrow, Spivak, Stratton, Taylor and Whelan, P.C. (9).
In attendance: June Dewetering and Frédéric Forge, Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament; Dave Newman, Newman Communications.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to its order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 1998, the committee continued its study on Recombinant Bovine Somatotropine (rBST) and its effect on the human and animal health aspects.
Mr. David A. Dodge made an opening statement and together with officials, answered questions.
It was ordered, -- That the document entitled The Best Practices Initiative presented by Mr. David Dodge be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900 A2/SS-2, 38 "4").
It was ordered, -- That the document entitled Senate Recommendations - Status Report presented by Mr. David Dodge be filed as an exhibit with the clerk of the committee (Exhibit 5900 A2/SS-2, 38 "5").
At 12:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
