The Subcommittee on the Boreal Forest of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 5:32 p.m. this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Nicholas Taylor, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Spivak and Taylor (2).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Chalifoux (1).
In attendance: Ms Lynne Myers, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference adopted in the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry on February 19, 1998, the subcommittee commenced its study to inquire into issues related to the harvest of the Boreal Forest and other matters relating to forestry which may referred to it from time to time by the committee. (See Issue No. 1, February 19, 1998, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

Ms Louise Trépanier, Acting Director, Program Development and Claims Support, Comprehensive Claims Branch;
Mr. Hugh Ryan, Acting Director, Environment and Natural Resources Directorate, Lands and Environment Branch; and
Mr. Peter Wyse, Manager, Natural Resources, Environment and Natural Resources Directorate, Lands and Environment Branch.
Mr. Ryan made a statement and, with Ms Trépanier and Mr. Wyse, answered questions.
At 6:25 p.m. the subcommittee met in camera to discuss future business.
At 6:35 p.m. the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
