The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met at 9:30 a.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable Ron Ghitter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Buchanan, Butts, Cochrane, Ghitter, Kenny, Milne and Spivak (7).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Simard and Statton (3).

In attendance: Lynne Myers from the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the National Energy Board:

Roland Priddle, Chairman;

Judith Hanebury, General Counsel.

The committee, in compliance with its Order of Reference dated Thursday, October 23, 1997 proceeded to examine such issues as may arise from time to time relating to energy, the environment and natural resources generally in Canada. (See Proceedings of the Committee dated November 5, 1997)

Mr. Priddle made an opening statement and, together with the other witness, answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
