The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met at 9:05 a.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable Ronald D. Ghitter, presiding.

Members of the committee presents: The Honourable Senators Buchanan, Butts, Cochrane, Fitzpatrick, Ghitter, Kenny, Maloney, Spivak and Taylor (9).

In attendance: Lynne Myers from the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Department of Canadian Heritage:

Tom Lee, Assistant Deputy Minister, Parks Canada;

Wendy Bergeron, Director, Human Resources National Office;

Mike Fay, Director, Strategic Business Services, Strategy and Plans Directorate;

Laurent Tremblay, Executive Director for Quebec;

Henry Schultz, Department of Justice.

From the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPS):

Steve Hindle, President;

Blair Stannard, Vice-President.

The committee, in compliance with its Order of Reference dated Monday, June 15, 1998 proceeded to examine Bill C-29, An Act to establish the Parks Canada Agency and to amend other Acts as a consequence.

Mr. Lee made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:50 a.m., the committee took a ten minutes recess.

Mr. Hindle made a statement and, together with the other witness, answered questions.

At 11:50 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Robert Page, Former Chair of the Banff-Bow Valley Task Force.

The committee, in compliance with its Order of Reference dated Monday, June 15, 1998 proceeded to examine Bill C-29, An Act to establish the Parks Canada Agency and to amend other Acts as a consequence.

Mr. Page made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 2:10 p.m., the committee continued in camera.

At 2:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
