The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:30 p.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cools, Forest, Kinsella, Lynch-Staunton, Mercier, Sparrow and Stratton (8).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From Treasury Board Secretariat:

Mr. Rick Neville, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Mr. Andrew Lieff, Assistant Director, Estimates Division, Expenditures Management Sector.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 18, 1998, the Committee began its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1998.

The committee considered its future business.

It was moved by Senator Bolduc, -- That in the absence of the Chairman and for the purpose of presiding committee meetings during the period beginning March 23 to April 3, 1998, Senator Cools act as Chairman.

Mr. Rick Neville made a statement and with Mr. Lieff answered questions.

At 7:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
