The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 12:00 p.m. this day, in Room 505 Victoria, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Bryden, Cools, Forest, Joyal, P.C., Lavoie-Roux, Moore, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent ) and Stratton (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Prud'homme and Rivest (2).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec:

Nikolas Ducharme, President;

Pascal Bérubé, Vice-President.

From the Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec:

Mathieu Painchaud, Researcher;

Jean-Sébastien Talbot, Policy Researcher.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, June 8, 1998, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-36.

Mr. Ducharme and Mr. Painchaud made a statement and with the assistance of the other witnesses answered questions.

At 1:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
