The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:30 p.m. this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carstairs, Cook, Cools, Ferretti Barth, Lavoie-Roux, Kinsella, Mahovlich, Stratton and Tkachuk (9).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 10, 1999, the committee began its examination of Bill C-43, An Act to establish the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and to amend and repeal other Acts as a consequence.

WITNESSES:

From the Customs Excise Union:

Ronny Moran, National President;

Wayne Mercer, National Vice-President.

Mr. Moran made a statement and with Mr. Mercer answered questions.

At 6:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
