The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 10:45 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cook, Ferretti Barth, Fraser, Lavoie-Roux, Mahovlich and Stratton (7).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 4, 1999, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000.

WITNESSES:

From the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat:

Mr. Rick Neville, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Analysis and Operations Sector;

Mr. Andrew Lieff, Director, Expenditure Analysis and Operations Sector;

Mr. Bob Mellon, Manager, Estimates Production Group, Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector.

Mr. Neville made a presentation on the supply process and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
