The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 8:30 a.m. in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Butts, Comeau, Cook, Robertson, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

By videoconference, from the National Association of Small Vessel Owners, Iceland:

Mr. Arthur Bogason, Chairman.

By videoconference, as an individual:

Mr. Olafur Hannibalsson, Journalist, Political Commentator and Deputy MP in Iceland.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 19, 1997, the committee resumed its examination upon the questions of privatization and quota licensing in Canada's fisheries. (See proceedings of the committee dated November 27, 1997, Issue No. 2, for complete text of Order of Reference. )

Mr. Bogason made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed -- That the presentation including charts prepared by Mr. Bogason form part of the records of the proceedings of the committee.

Mr. Hannibalsson made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed -- That the paper submitted by Mr. Hannibalsson form part of the records of the proceedings of the committee.

At 10:35 a.m., the committee proceeded to consider future business in camera.

At 10:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
