The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 8:30 a.m. in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Butts, Comeau, Cook, Mahovlich, Robertson, Robichaud (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Stewart (7).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
APPEARING:
The Honourable David Anderson, P.C., M.P., Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
WITNESS:
From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans:
Mr. Pat Chamut, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries Management.
Pursuant to Order of Reference adopted on Thursday March 4, 1999, the committee commenced its examination of the expenditures set out in Fisheries and Oceans Votes 1, 5 and 10 of the Estimates for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 2000. ( For full text of Order of Reference, please refer to Issue No. 23, Thursday June 3, 1999.)
The Honourable David Anderson made a statement.
Mr. Chamut made a presentation. The Minister and Mr. Chamut answered questions.
It was agreed -- That the document entitled "Technical Overview: Pacific Salmon Treaty" presented by Pat Chamut be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the committee.
At 10:20 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
