The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 3:24 p.m. in room 356-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bolduc, Corbin, De Bané, Di Nino, Doody, Grafstein, Stewart, Stollery and Whelan (10).

Also present: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mr. Peter Berg, Economics Division.

In attendance: Official Senate reporters.

WITNESS:

From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade:

John Klassen, Director General, APEC.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific region (see committee proceedings of October 29, 1997, issue no. 2).

Mr. Klassen made a presentation and took questions from committee members.

At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
