The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 3:27 p.m., in Room 505 of the Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, and the Honourable Eymard G. Corbin presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carney, P.C., Corbin, De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Doody, Grafstein, Grimard, Stewart and Stollery (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: M. Peter Berg, Economics Division.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Moved by the Honourable Senator Doody, it is agreed that the Honourable Senator Corbin chaired the meeting. Motion carried.

The committee resumed consideration of its order of reference pertaining to relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific region (see Committee proceedings of October 29, 1997, Issue No. 2).

Mr. Sutherland, Mr. Keys, Mr. Hecnar, Ms Girard and Ms Bradford each made a presentation and answered questions from committee members.

At 5:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
