The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met at 2:55 p.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bolduc, Corbin, De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Grafstein, Losier-Cool, Robertson, Stewart, Stollery and Whelan, P.C. (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Kenny, Prud'homme, P.C. and Roche (3).
In attendance: Peter Berg from the Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
WITNESS:
From the Bank of Canada:
John D. Murray, Chief, International Department.
Pursuant of the Order of Reference adopted the by the Senate on Wednesday, November 19, 1997, the committee proceeded to examine and report on the consequences for Canada of the emerging European Monetary Union and other related trade and investment matters.
Mr. Murray made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
