The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, met this day in Room 257, East Block, at 5:19 p.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Lorna Milne, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Cogger, Doyle, Gigantès, Lewis, Milne and Watt (7).

In attendance: Monique Hébert, Research Officer, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 22, 1997, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-220, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Copyright Act (profit from authorship respecting a crime). (See Issue No.1, Wednesday, October 29, 1997, for full text of Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

Ms Marian Hebb, Member, Lawyer.

The Chairman made an opening statement.

Mr. Jeffrey House and Ms Marian Hebb each made a statement and answered questions.
