The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day, in Room 257, East Block, at 10:48 a.m., the Honourable Lorna Milne, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Bryden, Carstairs, Fraser, Lewis, Milne, Moore, Nolin and Pépin (10).

In attendance: Nancy Holmes and Marilyn Pilon, Research Officer, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 8, 1999, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-79, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (victims of crime) and another Act in consequence. (For full text of Order of Reference, please refer to Issue No.73, Wednesday, June 9, 1999.)

The Chair made a statement.

It was moved by the Honourable Senator Carstairs -- That the committee dispense with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-79, an Act to amend the Criminal Code (victims of crime) and another Act in consequence, and report to the Senate without amendment.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

Senator Carstairs made a statement.

The committee discussed future business.

At 11:01 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
