The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, met this day, in Room 160-S, Centre Block, at 11:04 a.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Lorna Milne, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Bryden, Fraser, Lewis, Milne, Moore, Nolin and Pearson (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Grafstein (1).

In attendance: Nancy Holmes and David Goetz, Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 8, 1999, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-69, An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act and to amend another Act in consequence. (For full text of Order of Reference please see Issue No. 74, Monday, June 14, 1999.)

The Chair made a statement.

The Chairman read into the record the letter she sent, on behalf of the committee, to the Honourable Minister MacAulay, P.C., M.P., on June 16, 1999, and the minister's responses dated July 6, 1999 and September 1, 1999.

Ms Campbell answered questions.

At 11:58 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
