The Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met at 4:04 p.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Maheu, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Bacon, Carstairs, Grafstein, Grimard, Kelly, Maheu and Robertson (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senators Prud'homme (1).
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
The committee proceeded to the consideration of new sitting times for the Senate.
After debate,
It was agreed that further consideration of the proposal be adjourned to the next meeting of the committee.
The committee resumed its consideration of Restructuring of Senate Committees.
After debate,
It was agreed that Senators Bacon, Grafstein, Joyal, Kelly, Maheu (ex officio) and Robertson be appointed as members of the sub-committee on Restructuring of Senate Committees and that the sub-committee report back no later than the end of the year.
The committee resumed its consideration of the proposal for establishing a disability policy.
After debate,
It was agreed that the report on the precise regulations and details of the proposed policy be presented to the committee at its next meeting.
The committee proceeded to the consideration of a proposal to grant all standing committees, on a permanent basis, the power to televise their proceedings.
After debate,
It was agreed that the power to televise not be granted on a permanent basis but that committees continue to request such a power from the Senate on an individual basis, as is the present practice.
At 4:35 p.m., the committee proceeded in camera.
At 4:46 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
