The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 4:50 p.m. this day in Room 256-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: Adams, Bacon, Butts, Fitzpatrick, Forrestall, Johnson, Mercier and Poulin. (8)
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Rompkey.
In attendance: John Christopher, Research Officer, Library of Parliament
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 3,1998, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-15, An Act for to amend the Canada Shipping Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

Ron Jackson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security;
Bud Streeter, Director General, Marine Safety;
Mark Gauthier, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.
The witnesses each made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed -- That the committee move to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-15.
It was agreed -- That Clauses 1 and 2 carry.
It was agreed -- That Clauses 3 to 19 carry.
It was agreed -- That Clauses 20 to 35 carry.
It was agreed -- That this Bill be adopted.
It was agreed -- That Bill C-15 be reported to the Senate without amendment.
The Honourable Senator Poulin moved -- That the report of the Subcommittee on Transportation Safety be adopted and that the Chairman table the report in the Senate.
After debate -- it was resolved in the affirmative.
At 6:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
