The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:30 p.m., in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Fitzpatrick, Forrestall, Johnson, Joyal, P.C., Kinsella, Lynch-Staunton, Maheu, Perrault, P.C., Poulin, Roberge and Spivak (13).
Other Senators present: Beaudoin, DeWare, Grafstein, Kelleher, P.C., Oliver and Tkachuk (6).
In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament and Till Heyde, Legislative Clerk, Committees and Private Legislation Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 25, 1999, the committee proceeded to consider Bill C-55, respecting advertising services supplied by foreign periodical publishers.
The Honourable Sheila Copps, P.C., Minister of Canadian Heritage, made a statement and answered questions.
The witnesses from the Department of Canadian Heritage made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, -- That the following budget application be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
