The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs met at 9:05 a.m. this day in Room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Orville H. Phillips, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Cools, Forest and Jessiman (5).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Prud'homme and Kelly.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Grant Purves, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

Mr. Douglas Fisher.

Pursuant to the Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 25, 1997 and by the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on November 25, 1997, the subcommittee continued its examination on the future of the Canadian War Museum. (See Proceedings of the subcommittee dated February 2, 1998, Issue No. 3)

Mr. Douglas Fisher made a presentation to the subcommittee.

Mr. Scott Taylor, Mr. Leslie Peate and Mr. Norman Shannon made a statement and answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Cools moved --

That the brief and the attached letters presented by Mr. Taylor form part of the records of the proceedings of the subcommittee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. John Thompson made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Doug Donnolly made a statement and answered questions.

The Hon. Senator Phillips moved --

That the written submission made by Major General Roméo Dallaire form part of the records of the proceedings of the subcommittee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Bruce Levine made a statement and answered questions.

The Honourable Senator Forest moved --

That the letter sent by Mr. Levine to the Chairman of the subcommittee form part of the records of the proceedings of the subcommittee.
