The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 3:30 p.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Fairbairn, P.C., Fitzpatrick, Gill, Gustafson, Oliver, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) Rossiter and Wiebe (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Ferretti Barth (1).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Research Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
APPEARING:
The Honourable Lyle Vanclief, P.C., M.P., Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
WITNESS:
From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada:
Mr. Doug Hedley, Senior Executive Director, Policy Branch.
Pursuant to its order of reference to study the present state and the future of agriculture in Canada, consideration of farm income issues.
The Honourable Lyle Vanclief made an opening statement and, together with Mr. Doug Hedley, answered questions.
The Honourable Senator Fairbairn moved -- That the Steering Committee be authorized to assemble a drafting committee to direct and review the first draft of a report on farm safety nets.
The question being put on motion, it was agreed.
At 5:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
