The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 3:45 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable E. Leo Kolber, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Fitzpatrick, Furey, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kolber, Kroft, Meighen, Oliver, Poulin and Tkachuk (11).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wilson.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Gerald M. Lafrenière, Research Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2000, the Committee proceeded to study Bill S-19, to amend the Canada Business Corporations Act and the Canada Cooperatives Act and to amend other Acts in consequence. (See Issue No. 10, April 13, 2000, for the full text of the order of Reference.)
Mr. Conacher made an opening statement and then answered questions.
Mr. Yaron made an opening statement and then answered questions.
Mr. Ellmen made an opening statement and then answered questions.
Mr. Davis made an opening statement and then, along with Father Soo, answered questions.
At 5:50 p.m. the Committee adjourned in camera.
It was moved by Senator Angus -- That the Standing Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce travel to Chicago for meetings on Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday, May 31, and -- That one Library of Parliament researcher and two staff members from each side accompany the committee.
At 6:00 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
