The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:50 a.m. this day, in camera, in room 705 Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Murray, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, Finestone, P.C., Finnerty, Mahovlich, Moore, Stratton, (10).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 17, 1999, the committee examined Supplementary Estimates (A), laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000.
The committee discussed future business of the committee.
At 11:14 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Doody, Finestone, P.C., Mahovlich, Moore, Stratton (7).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Mr. Keith Coulter, Assistant Secretary, Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector Comptrollership Branch;
Mr. Andrew M. Lieff, Senior Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates Division Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector;
Mr. J. Kevin Lindsey, Director, Expenditure Operations, Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 2, 2000, the Committee began its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B), laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000.
Mr. Coulter made an opening statement, and, with Messrs Lieff and Lindsey answered questions.
At a later date, officials from the Treasury Board will provide written response to questions asked by committee members.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Moore, -- That the committee researcher prepare for consideration at the next committee meeting, March 22, 2000 at 5:45 p.m., a report containing the comments and concerns of the committee with regards to its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000.
The question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.
Budget of the committee for 2000-2001,
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Moore, -- That the committee approve the budget for the fiscal year ending 2000-2001.
The question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Finestone, -- That the Chair be authorized to present this budget to the Subcommittee on Finance and Budgets.
The question being put on the motion, it was resolved in the affirmative.
At 11:18 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
