The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries has the honour to table its

FIRST REPORT

Your Committee, which was authorized by the Senate to incur expenses for the purpose of its examination and consideration of such legislation and other matters as were referred to it, reports, pursuant to Rule 104, that the expenses incurred by the Committee during the First Session of the Thirty-sixth Parliament are as follows:

1. With respect to its examination and consideration of legislation:

Professional Services $ 689.20

Transportation & Communications 3,035.00

Witness Expenses 2,557.78

TOTAL $ 6,281.98

2. With respect to a special study to examine and report on quota licensing in Canada's fisheries:

Professional Services $ 5,499.10

Transportation & Communications 25,966.71

All other Expenditures 3,494.56

Witness Expenses 15,394.90

TOTAL $ 50,355.27

Your Committee heard from 87 witnesses, held 41 meetings, reviewed one Bill (C-27) and issued 4 reports in the last session.

Among the reports issued by the Committee on these matters was the "Privatization and Quota Licensing in Canada's Fisheries". The Committee made 10 major recommendations.
