The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:00 p.m. in Room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Comeau, Cook, Mahovlich, Perrault, P.C., Perry, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Watt (7).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 8, 1999, the committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry.
Mr. Maynard made a statement, and with Mr. Bird, Mr. Harling and Ms Murphy, answered questions.
It was moved by Senator Watt -- That the document entitled British Columbia's Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector, B.C. Statistics, Feb. 2000 be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "66") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled, "British Columbia Sport Fishery Economic Impact Survey 2000 - Preliminary Results from the Pilot Phase," B.C. Fisheries, April 2000, be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "67") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled, "B.C. Sport Fishing Industry Profile, B.C. Fisheries, July 1999," be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "68") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled, "B.C.'s Tidal and Anadromous Sport Fishery: Working Toward A Strategic Plan -- Context Report," J. Paul & Associates, January 1998, be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "69") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled, "B.C.'s Tidal and Anadromous Sport Fishery: A Joint Government and Sector Initiative -- Strategy and Action Plan", J. Paul & Associates, April 1998, be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "70") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled the Economic Value of Salmon: Chinook & Coho in British Columbia, ARA Consulting Group Inc., 1996 be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "71") with the Clerk of the committee.
That the document entitled the British Columbia's Angling Regulations - Regulations Synopsis 2000 - 2001 be filed as an exhibit (5900 F1-SS-1, 9 "72") with the Clerk of the committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
It was agreed -- That the Steering committee would decide whether a letter would be sent to the Minister of Fisheries requesting a follow-up on the progress of the first recommendation of the committee's 1998 Report entitled "Privatization and Quota Licensing".
At 8:30 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
