The Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met in camera at 6:00 p.m., this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Austin, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Austin, Corbin, DeWare, Grafstein, Grimard, Kroft, Losier-Cool, Robichaud, P.C. (Acadia) and Rossiter (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme (1).

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

At 8:05 p.m., the committee adjourned until tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at 12:00 p.m.

The Standing Committee on Privileges, Standing Rules and Orders met at 12:10 p.m. this day, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Austin, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Austin, Corbin, DeWare, Di Nino, Gauthier, Grafstein, Joyal, P.C., Kroft, Losier-Cool, Lynch-Staunton, Robichaud, P.C. (Acadia) and Rossiter (12).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Forrestall (1).

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

The Honourable Senator John Lynch-Staunton, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of Bill S-7, An Act respecting the declaration of royal assent by the Governor General in the Queen's name to bills passed by the Houses of Parliament.

The Honourable Senator Lynch-Staunton made a statement and answered questions.

After debate,

It was agreed, -- That consideration be adjourned and that the Steering Committee review how the committee should next proceed.

At 1:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the next meeting of the committee.
