The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, at 1:03 p.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators, Carstairs, Cook, Fairbairn, P.C., Finestone, P.C., Gill, Kirby, Murray, P.C., and Poulin (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin and Oliver (2).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Craig

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee continued its consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-6, An Act to support and promote electronic commerce by protecting personal information that is collected, used or disclosed in certain circumstances, by providing for the use of electronic means to communicate or record information or transactions and by amending the Canada Evidence Act, the Statutory Instruments Act and the Statute Revision Act. WITNESS:

As an individual:

Roger Tassé.

Mr. Tassé made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At. 2:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was moved by Senator Carstairs -- That the Chair be authorized to table the Second and Third Reports of the Committee dealing with the Committee's consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-6 in the chamber later today.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

At 2:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
