The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:32 p.m. in Room 705, Victoria Building.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Chalifoux, Fairbairn, P.C., Gill, Hubley, Oliver, Stratton, Tkachuk and Tunney (9).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering and Frédéric Forge.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 the committee continues to examine international trade in agricultural and agri-food products, and short-term and long-term measures for the health of the agricultural and the agri-food industry in all regions of Canada (For complete text of Order of Reference see Proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 2.).

J. Barry Turner, Director of Government Relations.
The Clerk informed the committee of the avoidable absence of the Chair and the Deputy Chair and presided over the election of an Acting Chair.
The Honourable Senator Fairbairn moved - That the Honourable Senator Chalifoux be Acting Chair of the Committee for this meeting.
The question being put on motion, - it was agreed.
Mr. Gray and Mr. Turner made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 6:54 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
