The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 8:30 a.m. in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Day, Gustafson, Hubley, Oliver, Phalen, Sparrow, Tkachuk, Tunney and Wiebe (10).
Also present: From the House of Commons: Leon Benoit, M.P.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 the committee continues to examine international trade in agricultural and agri-food products, and short-term and long-term measures for the health of the agricultural and the agri-food industry in all regions of Canada (for complete text of Order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2).

The Honourable Senator Sparrow made an opening statement.
Richard Aucoin made a statement and answered questions.
It was agreed - That the committee permit Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament from Lakeland to participate during today's proceedings.
Messrs Cameron Wilk, Scott Hartley, Ken Engel and Robert Schultz each made a statement and answered questions with Richard Aucoin.
The Honourable Senator Wiebe moved - That Environment Canada be asked to appear before the committee on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 5:30 p.m.
The question being put on the motion, it was negatived.
At 11:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
