The Standing Committee on Banking, Trade and commerce met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Kolber, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Furey, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kolber, Kroft, Poulin, Setlakwe, Stratton and Tkachuk (10).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Economic Division: Ms June Dewetering, Acting Principal and Mr. Alexandre Laurin, Research Officer.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, the Committee resumed its examination into the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (See Issue No. 6, March 28, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference.)

By video-conference, Mrs. Stymiest made a statement and answered questions.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 30, 2002, the committee began its examination of Bill C-47, An Act respecting the taxation of spirits, wine and tobacco and the treatment of ships' stores.
