The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:30 a.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, Mahovlich, Murray, P.C., Stratton, Tunney (9).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Public Service Commission:

Scott Serson, President of the Public Service Commission;

Michelle Chartrand, Commissioner;

Nurjehan Mawani, Commissioner;

Douglas Rimmer, Vice-President.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 1, 2001, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002.

Mr. Serson, Ms Chartrand and Mr. Mawani made an opening statement and with Mr. Rimmer answered questions from members of the committee.

At 11:07 a.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
