The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 3:31 p.m., this day, in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Lowell Murray, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Bolduc, Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, Finestone, P.C., Finnerty, Fraser, Murray, P.C., Rompkey, P.C., Stratton (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Moore, Tunney (2).

In attendance: Mr. Alexandre Laurin, Marc-André Pigeon, Research Officers, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Department of Finance:

Susan Peterson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 31, 2001, the Committee continued its examination of Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act.

The minister made an opening statement and, with Ms Peterson, answered questions from members of the Committee.

At 4:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair
