The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 5:48 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Murray, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cools, Callbeck, Ferretti Barth, Lynch- Staunton, Murray, P.C., Setlawke, Stratton, Tunney (9).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 6, 2002, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003.

WITNESSES:

From the Treasury Board Secretariat:

Frank Claydon, Secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General;

Richard J. Neville, Deputy Comptroller General, Comptrollership Branch;

David Bickerton, Executive Director, Expenditure Operations & Estimates Directorate, Comptrollership Branch.

The committee continued its examination of the Government Contingencies vote — Treasury Board Vote 5.

Mr. Claydon made an opening statement and, with Mr. Neville and Mr. Bickerton, answered questions from members of the committee.

At 7:24 p.m., committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
