The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:00 p.m. in room 257-S, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Johnson, Mahovlich, Moore, Robertson, Watt (8).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium: (BY VIDEO- CONFERENCE)

Mr. Allan H. Kristofferson, Coordinator;

Mr. Terry Miles, Member, Board of Directors (LWRC);

Mr. Herb Lawler, Member, Head (LWRC).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, the Committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry. (See Issue No. 1, March 20, 2001, for the full text of the Order of Reference.).

Mr. Kristofferson made a statement and with Mr. Miles and Mr. Lawler answered questions.

At 7:57 p.m., the committee continued in camera.

At 8:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans:

Mr. Paul Cuillerier, Director General, Habitat Management and Environmental Science;

Mr. Richard Nadeau, Director, Habitat Operations, Habitat Management and Environmental Science;

Mr. Patrice LeBlanc, Director, Habitat Program, Habitat Management and Environmental Science.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, the Committee continued its examination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry. (See Issue No. 1, March 20, 2001, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

Mr. Cuillerier made a statement and with Mr. Nadeau and Mr. Leblanc answered questions.

It was agreed - That the material submitted by Fisheries and Oceans Canada would be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee (Exhibit 5900 F1-SS-1, 9"29").

At 8:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
