The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries met this day at 7:10 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Tunney and Watt (4).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Forrestall (1).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Claude Emery, Research Officer.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
WITNESSES:

Mr. Paul Sprout, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries Management;
Ms Catrina Tapley, Director, AFPR and National Policy Framework;
Ms Michelle Doucet, Director, Program Development,Fisheries Renewal;
Mr. Arthur Kroeger, Chair of the Independent Panel on Access Criteria; and
Ms Martha Jackman, Board Member, Independent Panel on Access Criteria.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, the committee continued itsexamination upon the matters relating to the fishing industry. (See Issue No. 1, March 20, 2001, for the full text of the Order of Reference.).
Mr. Sprout made a statement and answered questions.
Mr. Kroeger made a statement and answered questions.
Mr. Sprout and Mr. Kroeger, along with other witnesses, answered questions.
It was agreed - That the material provided by Fisheries and Oceans Canada be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee (Exhibit 5900 F1-SS-1, 12 "31").
At 9:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
