The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met at 10:50 a.m., this day, in room 257, East Block, the Honourable Senator Milne, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Beaudoin, Cools, Fraser, Grafstein, Joyal, P.C., Milne, Moore, Nolin and Pearson (10).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on April 3, 2001, that the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs be authorized to examine the Chief Electoral Officer's Report for 2000 on the 37th general election; and that the committee submit its report no later than June 30, 2001. (See Issue No. 4, Wednesday, April 4, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference.)
The committee agreed to its report for tabling.
At 10:55 a.m., the meeting supended.
At 11:05 a.m., the meeting resumed.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-12, An Act to amend the Judges Act and to amend another Act in consequence.
