The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met at 4:36 p.m. this day, in room 257-East Block, the Honourable Senator Milne, Chair, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Buchanan, Cools, Fitzpatrick, Fraser, Joyal, P.C., Milne, Nolin, Pearson and Rivest (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Prud'homme, P.C. (1).
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes and Mollie Dunsmuir, Researchers, Law and Government Division.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, the committee proceeded to study Bill S-41, to re-enact legislative instruments enacted in only one official language.

The Honourable Martin Cauchon made an opening statement. Together with Mr. Newman and Mr. Tremblay, the Minister answered questions.
At 6:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Mr. McDonald made an opening statement. Together with Ms Currie and Mr. Chapman, the witnesses answered questions.
