The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 256, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Biron, Finestone, P.C., Gill, Gustafson, LaPierre, Oliver and Spivak (8).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Robertson (1).
In attendance: Martin Brennan, Special Advisor to the committee and Joseph Dion, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on December 10, 2001, the committee proceeded to studyBill C-44. (See Issue No. 20, Tuesday, December 11, 2001 and Wednesday, December 12, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference).

The International Air Transport Association and Transport Canada submitted a brief to the committee.

It was agreed - That the title stand postponed.
It was agreed - That clause 1 carry.
It was agreed - That the title carry.
It was agreed - That the bill be adopted without amendment.
It was moved by the Honourable Senator Oliver - That observations be appended to the report about the use of information that is collected under Schedules I and II and ask the minister or the department to seek assurance in that regards.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
It was agreed - That the Chair report the bill, as adopted, with observations, to the Senate.
At 5:14 p.m., it was agreed - That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
